PRISM played a seminal role in establishing and developing the Puget Sound Marine Environmental Modeling Consortium (PSMEM-C)

PRISM played a seminal role in establishing and developing the Puget Sound Marine Environmental Modeling Consortium (PSMEM-C), which brings together the UW, the Washington Department of Ecology, King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks, and the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

PSMEM-C brings together modelers from these organizations to link models of different aspects of the marine ecosystem, to share resources, and to explore research partnerships that could address issues of broad regional concern. Among other projects, the consortium has supported models of the movement of oil spills in response to tidal currents; projected discharges from King County's Brightwater Treatment Plant [hyperlink to PRISM story]; circulation of marine waters in bays and inlets of south Puget Sound; and models of dissolved oxygen in Hood Canal.

PSMEM-C is currently exploring opportunities for new applications, including models to evaluate the environmental consequences of employing tidal energy technology in Puget Sound and a variety of research priorities being developed by the Puget Sound Partnership.
