Installing the CRYSTAL Model

The CRYSTAL model requires that Powersim Constructor Version 2.51 and Microsoft EXCEL software be installed. An evaluation version of Powersim can be obtained from the Powersime website at www.powersim.com.

The specific EXCEL and Powersim files needed for CRYSTAL are located on an anonymous ftp site on the World Wide Web. They may be transferred to any PC with Internet access with the following steps.

  1. Create a directory on your PC
  2. On your PC’s c: drive create a directory for the files, for example, name it CRYSTAL.

Note: All files on the ftp site need to be transferred into the same directory. If files are not located in the same directory, links between the model and spreadsheets will not function.

  3. The files are available on the following ftp site: ftp://ftp.ce.washington.edu/pub/Palmer/prism/CRYSTAL
  4. This model structure has been placed on an FTP site maintained by Dr. Richard Palmer.

  5. Down load and save the following load files to your PC:
  • Crystal.sim
  • Weeks.xls
  • Flows.xls.
  • Output.xls
  • IHAoutput.xls

The .sim file is the actual CRYSTAL model. The .xls files provide the input data needed to run the model and output files that capture some output outside of the CRYSTAL model.
